Add ICA Connection

This launches a wizard to create your custom connection. An ICA Dial-in connection allows you to connect directly to a modem or modem pool connected to the Citrix server and can be used instead of a Dial-Up Networking (PPP/RAS) connection. An ICA Dial-in differs from a RAS connection in that you're authenticated within the session instead of making a network connection outside of the session beforehand.

AppEnumerator

This provides an interface for accessing a user's application set information.

Application load

An accurate measure of work load cannot be taken without considering the type of applications that will be deployed on the server. Certain applications will consume more memory than others, as well as processing time and disk space. Microsoft Office 2000 applications will eat up at least 10MB of RAM each, while Office XP consumes 12MB, and Outlook another 2MB!

Application Location

When you choose the Publish Application radio button, the Command Line box within this tab refers to the location of the local executable files for the published application. The Working Directory is the directory where the application's executable file resides.

Application Name

Use this tab to view or update the reference names and description of the application. This must be a name that uniquely identifies the application in the farm. On this tab you have the option to disable the application. When the application is disabled, no users will be able to access the application.

Application Properties

The Application Properties dialog box allows an administrator to adjust a number of application specific settings. The tabs displayed within the Application Properties dialog box allow an administrator to 'tweak' an application's properties. Any changes made to the properties of an application will affect the properties of that application, when it is accessed through an ICA session, on every server for which it is configured.

Appsrv.src

This program allows you to edit parameters relating to custom ICA connections, specifically application servers and the client settings Seen in the Custom ICA Connections View. You can use this file to restrict users to a particular view and remove icons you do not want them to use.

Asynchronous (Async) connections

Async connections have many of the same security features as network connections, but each Async listener is limited to one connection. Asynchronous connections also have additional configuration options not available with network connections. If the transport option is set for asynchronous connections, administrators will see a list of devices that are available for asynchronous connectivity. A list of COM ports and/or modems will be displayed, along with a set of options for the device being used. If asynchronous connections are configured for dial-up access, the properties of the selected modem are accessible through the Citrix Connection Configuration tool.

Authentication Tickets

These are used to keep the user's credentials secure in the ICA file downloaded to the user. The ICA file, by default, contains the user's username and domain name in clear text. The password is 'scrambled' in the ICA file. If the ICA file was captured, these credentials could be cut and pasted into a new ICA file and reused over and over. An Authentication ticket is issued to the user and used in place of the user's credentials. This ticket is encrypted and good for only one use or 200 seconds. Once it has been used or the timeout has expired the ticket will no longer be accepted by the MetaFrame servers.

Auto-created client printers

These are one of the most sought after functions in MetaFrame. This system allows users to connect from almost any device, use an application, and still print to their local printer though the application is running on a server that could be thousands of miles away. Auto-created client printers are generally a challenge to configure and maintain, however. This is generally due to the large number of inexpensive printers available to users and your need to have an appropriate driver for each printer the client wishes to use.

Auto-created printers

A type of client printer that is generally used with 32-bit Windows clients but can be configured for other clients, such as Windows CE and DOS. These types of client printers do not auto-create natively, but an administrator can configure these clients to auto-create by using the Citrix Management Console.

AutoLogon

The AutoLogon option can be configured so all connections to a selected listener automatically log on with a specified user account. However, administrators should carefully consider the security implications of using this option. If this option is used carelessly, administrators may not be able to control who accesses the Citrix server.
