Routers need to be able to learn about attached networks and routes through the network. In smaller networks it is easy to use manually entered routes to let the router know where to route data it receives. Entering routes manually can be as simple as setting the network information on the inside and outside interfaces. Manually entered routes are called static routes . Alternatively, routers can learn about networks and routes through the network from other network routers; in these situations, the learned routes are called dynamic routes . This chapter discusses the different dynamic routing protocols used in Cisco networks and explains how they work. This chapter also describes the commands related to troubleshooting routing protocols that you need to know to pass the exam successfully. |
