Task 14: Restarting and Shutting Down the Computer

Click Start .

Click the Turn Off Computer button.

Select Restart to restart the computer, or select Turn Off to turn off the computer. If you selected to restart, the computer is restarted. If you selected to turn off, the computer is shut down.

INTRODUCTION

Sometimes you will need to restart your computer. You might do this if the computer gets stuck or if you make changes and need to restart to put the changes into effect. When you are done working on your computer, you should turn it off.

TIP

Save Documents and Close Programs

Before you shut down or restart, save any documents that you are working on and also close any open programs. You can find out more about these topics in the next part, Part 2.

TIP

Hibernate

To hibernate the computer to conserve power, select the Hibernate button. This is most commonly used for laptops.
