Open the Add or Remove Programs tab. (Refer to Task 9, "Installing Programs," for help on displaying this Control Panel option.)
Click the Set Program Access and Defaults button.
Click the option button for the program type you want to change. For instance, click Microsoft Windows to set the default programs for Microsoft Windows programs. You see the options for that program type.
Click OK .
INTRODUCTION
You can set the default programs used for certain tasks such as browsing the Internet, sending e-mail, and so on. This is a new feature of the updated version of Windows XP and is included in the Add or Remove Programs tab. You can set default programs for Microsoft Windows programs, non-Microsoft programs, and custom programs.

To make a change to any listed program, display the drop-down list next to the program type and select the program you want to use.
