INTRODUCTION
Windows XP enables you to start one or more programs at the same time that you start Windows by turning your computer on.
TIP
Hibernate
The Start menu must be Classic style for the steps to work. If you prefer to use the default XP style, note that XP's Hibernate feature enables you to leave applications open when you power down your computer. (Your computer must be able to support this option for it to work.) When the computer is turned back on, the applications you left open are restored to your desktop. To use the Hibernate feature, click Start, Turn Off Computer. In the dialog box, select the Hibernate option.
Right-click the icon for the program you want to add to the Startup folder, and choose Copy from the menu that appears.
Right-click the Startup folder in the left-hand pane, and select Paste from the menu that appears.
The program is copied to the Startup folder.
Click the Close button to close Windows Explorer.
TIP
Close the Dialog Boxes
Click the OK button to close the Customize Classic Start Menu dialog box. Then click OK to close the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties dialog box.
TIP
WARNING!
If you don't turn off your computer each night and then turn it on again when you begin work, programs in the Startup folder will not start each morning. They are started only when you start Windows.
TIP
Remove a Program
To remove a program from the Startup folder, follow the steps in this task to open the folder. Then, right-click the icon for the program you want to remove, and select Delete from the menu that appears.
