Closing a Document


When you are finished working with a document, close it to free up system resources. Most programs, with the exceptions of WordPad and Paint, include a Close command and a Close button for the document window. To close the document, select File, Close or click the Close button for the document window. In WordPad, Notepad, and Paint, you must open another document, create a new document, or exit the program to close the document.

Note that closing a document is not the same as exiting the program. To close the document and exit the program, select File, Exit or click the Close button for the program window (see Figure 2.6).
