Chapter 20. Upgrading Windows

IN THIS CHAPTER

  • Checking Your Windows Version

  • Installing Windows Updates

  • Installing or Removing Windows Components

Windows XP is by no means perfect, so during its lifetime, Microsoft will fix problems (called bugs) with little programs (called patches). To keep your version updated, you can download updates to Windows XP. Periodically, Microsoft bundles several patches and bug fixes together into a service pack, and you can download and install this service pack. Currently, Windows Service Pack 2 is the most up-to-date version of Windows. You can check your current version and install updates as needed.

Also, depending on your Windows installation, certain components may not have been installed. You can review the list of components and add or remove them as needed. That's the focus of this chapterupgrading Windows.
