INTRODUCTION

Chapter 19 of the first edition of this book contained some basic information which I think is worth retaining here.

For something that is meant to be so complex, project management doesn't actually require much basic terminology. There are really four things you need to know about:

  • Effort, also sometimes called work

  • Schedule, also sometimes called elapsed time

  • Critical path

  • Milestones

In addition, there are a whole heap of additional terms that are bandied about from time to time and these are presented in a glossary of terms at the end of this appendix.
