Chapter Review

This chapter discussed the steps required to package and deploy an EJB or enterprise application to the WebLogic Server environment.

The first section reviewed the structure and contents of an EJB archive file and discussed the steps required to compile and build the EJB archive using Ant-based build scripts.

The second section discussed the proper way to package your application using an enterprise application structure. We reviewed the structure and contents of an enterprise application including the application descriptor files and the manifest Class-Path technique for packaging utility archives. Both exploded and archived enterprise application structures were presented and built for bigrez.com using Ant-based build scripts.

The final section presented the steps necessary to deploy your enterprise application using two standard deployment techniques and discussed the importance of preparing the environment before deployment.

The bigrez.com application is now complete and ready for deployment in production, a task we tackle in Chapter 11. The next two chapters continue our discussion of development- related techniques by examining best practices and WebLogic Server features in the areas of JMS messaging and security. Chapter 15 completes discussion of development practices by exploring the use of Web services in WebLogic Server and then creating and deploying Web services for key reservation processes in bigrez.com .
