Application Requirements

The example application is a Web-based reservation system for hotels, bed-and- breakfasts, and resorts, suitable for hosting in an application service provider (ASP) environment.

Specific requirements include the following:

  • The system must provide a user site with a basic property search, pricing, room availability, and reservation capability.

  • Property information must be created and maintained through an administration site providing pages for maintenance of property data including basic property information, room types, rate, inventory, and targeted marketing offers. Properties must be able to view and maintain their own information through the administration site.

  • The visual appearance of the site must be easily configured to support multiple installations in an ASP environment.

  • Users must be able to create profiles containing guest information to speed subsequent reservations .

  • Marketing offers should be targeted to users based on the last property search performed or hotel selected.

  • The application must employ a relational database to store all property, guest, and reservation information.

Sound challenging enough? Don t forget the ever-present requirements for high performance and good scalability, maintainability, and reliability. Sounds like a job for J2EE and WebLogic Server!

We re going to call our Web-based reservation application bigrez.com .
