NewMenu: File New Mac: Cmd + N Win: Ctrl + N New with Last-Used SettingsMac: Cmd + Option + N Win: Ctrl + Alt + N Sometimes you might notice that when you create a new document, it seems as if Photoshop is just making up numbers for the dimensions (and randomly choosing the mode as well). Don't worry, there is nothing random going on here. Photoshop automatically enters the attributes of any selection you may have copied to the Clipboard. (This is a cool timesaver in and of itself.) Use this shortcut if you want to bypass this behavior and force Photoshop to use the values of the last document you actually created. Steal the Attributes of an Open DocumentMenu: Window Choose the document from the list. (In Photoshop 7, open documents are listed under the Window Documents submenu.) Here is another one of those deeply buried, not obvious, and undocumented shortcuts that makes you say, "Doh! I wish I knew that years ago!" When you are compositing images, it is often useful to make the canvas sizes of all the documents you are using the same. The three different places you can take advantage of this trick are the New dialog box, the Image Size dialog box, and the Canvas Size dialog box. When in any of these three places, you may have never noticed that most of the menus are grayed out and unavailable. However, the Window menu is available. If you choose any open document listed in the Window menu, Photoshop automatically changes the attributes of the New, Image Size, and Canvas Size dialog boxes to match the open document. Don't remember what folder it is in? Don't sweat it. Make Photoshop do the work for you. Click the Find button or use the shortcut, type in the name or partial name of the file you are looking for, and have Photoshop find it. Photoshop displays the first occurrence of the name it finds for you. If that is not the correct file, use the Find Again command (Cmd + G) [Ctrl + G] until you find the file you are looking for. Note: You might not want to use this shortcut if you are hooked up to a network because it can get extremely slow. Note: This shortcut can conflict with third-party utilities that launch their own find commands and is not available in the Photoshop 7 File Browser. BrowseMenu: File Open Mac: Cmd + Shift + O Win: Ctrl + Shift + O The Browse command opens Photoshop 7's new File Browser. It's generally easiest to keep the File Browser docked to the Palette Well for quick access, but if you prefer to reserve that space for other palettes, this shortcut will come in handy. If you undock the File Browser and would like to re-dock it, use the command Dock to Palette Well in the File Browser's flyout menu. File Browser
