So far I have identified the following undesirable consequences of the myth of leadership:
Perception that success (or failure) is due to the people at the top, thereby undervaluing the majority of the employees
Huge inequity in pay
Belief that the few are meant to lead and the rest to follow, fostering the creation of a culture of secrecy and deceit
Growing gap between decision makers and reality due to that culture
Underutilization of skills in the organization
Fewer innovative strategies
Less competitiveness at both strategic and tactical (operational efficiencies) levels
Fewer humane and dignified workplaces
