The IDS sensor contains two files that we talk about frequently in this chapter; those files are current-config and backup-config . Current-config is the actual configurations file the system operates on. All the signature settings, IP addresses, hostnames, and so on are stored in this file. Unlike other operating systems from Cisco, the current-config file is saved automatically to disk whenever you make a change, so you don't have to save it manually.
The backup-config file is a manual backup of the current-config file that you can use as a general recovery. The next section shows how to create a backup-config file using the copy command.
