Operation of Audiosuite Plug-Ins

To operate an Audiosuite plug-in, you must first select one or more regions to process. Then you can open up an Audiosuite plug-in window, as shown in Figure 7.1. Clicking the preview button will cycle a portion of the region you selected first, so that you may adjust parameters of the plug-in while listening to the results. You will only be able to hear that one portion of audio. The amount of this portion you hear is determined by the Audiosuite buffer setting, which can be found by selecting Setups > Preferences > Processing to access the Pro Tools Preferences for Processing. There you will find five options for the Audiosuite Buffer Size, ranging from mini to jumbo. Larger buffer settings will allow you to preview long portions of your selected audio in order to adjust parameters. Once you have made any adjustments to the plug-in's parameters, you have several options for processing the file.

You may want to replace the original audio with the newly processed file. In this case, make sure that the use in playlist button is active, as in Figure 7.1. This is the default setting, as most likely the processing you will do should replace the original sound in the timeline.

The second option concerns how you would like the selection of several regions to be handled. Pro Tools can process each file separately, creating a new processed file for each region selected. Or, the entire selection can be processed as one continuous file, with the processed audio showing up in the exact same place as it was originally. Both the region by region menu and the create individual files menu will toggle from one option to the other.

Finally, you can select either region list or playlist from the top center menu. When set to region list, you can choose a region that is not currently used in any track or playlist and process that file, placing the new file into the Audio Regions list only. No audio on any track will be affected. When in Playlist mode, the processed files will replace the original ones on the track.
