Printing

With all the powerful capabilities that generating reports affords you, the need to print is almost made redundant. Do you really need all that paper? Still, sometimes you will need a hard copy of your reports. Follow these steps to print reports :

  1. By following the preceding steps, set up the report you want. When the report is onscreen, choose List, Print. The Print Screen List screen appears (see Figure 12.8).

Figure 12.8. Select a printer and set printing options.

    TIP

    What About the Icon?

On screens that show the printer icon, you can use this instead of the menu path .

  2. If you know the name of your local printer, enter it here. If not, choose it from the matchcode list.

    CAUTION

Where Did These Settings Come From?

If you've assigned defaults to your user ID, those values will be carried through into some of the fields. If you don't want to use the defaults, you can go in and change the default values proposed on the Print Screen List.

  3. If you select the Print Immed. option, SAP prints the report on the selected printer. If you don't select Print Immed., SAP generates a spool request . This request will be held by the output controller for printing later.

  4. When you are ready to print, click the Print icon. You will get a message like Spool request (number XXXXX) created.

Plain English

Spool Request

A saved print job.

Output Controller

A program that runs on the central computer to control all the spool requests .

You can access the output controller from any screen by choosing System, Services, Output Controller. From the resulting screen, you can print, change, delete, display, or check the status of spool requests.

TIP

Learning More

To learn more about using the output controller, choose Help, Getting Started from Any Screen. From the Getting Started with R/3 help screen, scroll down to Printing and click it. In the box that appears, click Managing Spool Requests from the Output Controller.

In this lesson, you learned how SAP R/3 handles printing and output. You also learned that you can change its proposed settings for your user ID at the time of printing. In the next lesson, you learn how to use variants to save time when you have large or complex selection criteria for your lists and reports. You also learn how you can save and share these selection criteria with other users.
