Move the cursor to the Material field and click the Field Level Help button on the toolbar. (See Lesson 2, "Using the SAP R/3 Interface," for information on toolbar buttons .) SAP R/3 displays a dialog box that tells you how to use the field (see Figure 3.6).
Sometimes SAP R/3 uses fields in different ways for different kinds of records. For the purchase requisition in the Material field, for example, you could be buying a material that your company commonly buys. In this case, somebody in your company may already have created a master record for this material. For a material that already exists on your system, you would enter a material number. For a one-time purchase of a material, you would leave the Material field blank.

Master Record
Examples of master records are lists of products (material master) and lists of customers (customer master). (The dialog box in Figure 3.6 tells you to leave this field blank if the item you're buying isn't listed in your material master file.)
Sometimes a term displayed in the field-level help dialog box is highlighted. You can click a highlighted word to get a definition of it. Click the highlighted word material . Figure 3.7 shows the definition screen that appears.
When you finish reading the definition, click Back to clear the definition screen. To exit the field-level help dialog box, click Cancel.
In this lesson, you learned how to get around on an SAP R/3 screen and how to get help with fields and definitions. In the next lesson, you learn how to move between SAP R/3 screens.
