Crafting an Effective Project Management Curriculum

Like many development projects, putting together a project management training curriculum is an iterative process. As the time approaches to present your first project management workshops, these course offerings will be ‚ for the time being, at least ‚ fairly fixed; and you will be able to publish course outlines and syllabuses that accurately reflect the substance of these courses. Looking farther into the future, the course outlines may be less well-defined . You may even be tempted to post course outlines that imply that these courses are ‚“waiting in the wings ‚½ to be offered on demand. Avoid leaving this impression if possible. Let your audience know that the outlines are tentative (not necessarily a bad thing at all, because you may very often hear requests to modify them). Indicate for each listing that the course is ‚“under consideration, ‚½ ‚“under development, ‚½ or some other characterization that accurately reflects its current status. Once you start to publicize your project management curriculum plan, you will almost certainly receive feedback that will help guide you to changes. The pressures of delivering your current crop of workshops may take up much of your time and energy at the beginning, but even then you will want to put aside time to hone your curriculum plan so you can stay on target in meeting long- term needs.
