What to Do Next

  • Put together your ‚“short list ‚½ of project management ‚“angels. ‚½

  • Determine the best combination of ways to obtain information from each person on the list; for example, one-on-one, focus group , or virtual online meeting.

  • Read chapters 4 through 6 carefully and take notes to prepare for your meetings. Remember, the people you meet are going to have questions for you as well.

  • Pretend for a moment that the training design is complete as you read chapter 6 and outline the questions that your workshop evaluations should ask. Be prepared to review these possible questions with those you ‚ re interviewing. Listen carefully for any concerns they may have that could be addressed by questions on the evaluation.

In chapter 4, you ‚ ll get started with preliminary course design, basing your overall approach on the outcomes of your needs analysis. You ‚ ll see how to map these findings to an overall curriculum plan for your project management training effort. Curriculum and course design is usually an iterative process, so don ‚ t be surprised to find yourself roughing out some working prototypes for your training (using resources available in this book) and then returning to this chapter to revisit some of the needs assessment steps. This approach can help you arrive at a training solution that truly reflects your organization ‚ s needs.
