Conclusion


It is hoped that this chapter gave you some different lighting ideas to consider when you are painting your character. If you are lucky enough to use a 3D program when you are designing your character, you can experiment with these variations of lighting to get just the look you are after. If you are actually going to take pictures of a living model to use as the basis for your painting, these are good starting points. As a general rule, the simplest and most straightforward lighting schemes will convey your ideas the best. Too many lights will only be confusing. In the next chapter, we will be discussing one of the most misunderstood concepts in good picture making: handling edges and edge quality.
