14.1 Where Are We?

Implementing the modernization trail map selected in the previous chapter requires dealing with several problems. In essence, we have components running on different hardware platforms, written in different languages, and storing data in different databases. A logical process step at this point is system preparation planning, in which we attempt to identify steps that can reduce the complexity of the componentization effort and, in turn , overall costs for the modernization effort.
