Viewing Clip Properties

 < Day Day Up >

As you're editing, there will be times when you may need to know some little detail about a clip you've captured. Maybe you want to know the size of the media file, where the clip is located on your hard drive, or what its pixel aspect ratio is. Some of this information appears in the Browser columns, where it's displayed for all clips. Another place to look is in the Item Properties window.

1.

In the Browser, select the 98B-man clip, and choose Edit > Item Properties > Format. (You can also press Cmd-9 to open the Item Properties window.)

The Item Properties window opens, displaying detailed information about every aspect of your clip. Notice under the Format tab that the frame size is 720 x 480, and the compressor is DV/DVCPRO NTSC. These are some of the settings for DV-NTSC video. If you were using a capture card to work with high definition video, the frame size and compressor would be different.

The Format tab displays clip settings, such as frame size, compressor, and data rate; the Timing tab displays timecode and length information. The Logging tab contains organizational information, such as what reel it came from and what scene, shot, and take it belongs to. The Film tab contains film information, if that was the originating format.

2.

Click Cancel to close the Item Properties window without making any changes.

NOTE

You can also Ctrl-click a clip in the Timeline to access the Item Properties window for a sequence clip. Or select the clip, and use either of the methods listed in step 1.
