Now that you've explored the core principles of nonlinear editing, it's time to learn how to apply effects to your sequence. In Final Cut Express, there are two sets of effects: transitions and filters. This lesson covers transitions. To put it simply, transitions change how two clips meet in the middle. Does one clip cut to the next? Or does it dissolve over time to the next clip? Do you peel an image away to reveal the following image? Or wipe from one image to the next? Transitions are extremely versatile and can be used for many different purposesfor example, to smooth a jarring edit point, to indicate the passage of time, or to create a style in your sequence.
