Summary

In this chapter we identified the architecture and benefits of clusters (improved scalability and availability). Then we examined the 10g AS cluster and how it conceptually works. Next we installed the prerequisite infrastructure instance and a secondary J2EE mid- tier instance. We then joined the infrastructure farm with the mid-tier instances. Next we created a cluster ( j2eedevcltr1 ) with the two mid-tier instances ( 904mt1 and 904mt2 ) fronted by a WC server. After we configured the cluster we explained how to deploy applications to one member, only to see the changes propagated to the other members by DCM. Finally, we actually tested the cluster by shutting down one instance and seeing work routed to the other.
