4.5. Advanced Memory Protection

HP ProLiant technologies now provide advanced memory protection methods and options that avoid downtime caused by memory failure. These technologies include the following methods that protect data still contained in memory:

• Online spare memory

• Single-board mirrored memory

• Hot-plug mirrored memory

• Hot-plug RAID memory

These options are implemented at the hardware level, independent of the operating system, and work with ECC technology to provide an additional level of protection against memory failures.

Each of these advanced memory protection options is explained later in this book in Chapter 19, "Availability."
