The StorageWorks Backup Sizing tool enables you to size and configure your ideal backup solution using information you provide. This tool

  • Displays a complete backup schedule for your environment.

  • Recommends solutions for tape drives and libraries that support your performance and business requirements.

  • Simplifies the configuration process through a Windows-based graphic user interface (GUI)

  • Lists updates to product compatibility in the EBS compatibility matrix.

  • Supports Windows Server 2003.

  • Offers a good /better /best recommended backup solution based on price, capacity, and performance.

  • Provides information about HP tape backup products and solutions.

The Backup Sizing tool is available in an online version or can be downloaded. HP strongly recommends the use of the online version, which you can run from any system that has Web access. The online version always has the latest version of software as well as compatibility information.

You also can download the HP StorageWorks Backup Sizing tool to run offline. Although limited in functionality, the offline version enables you to

  • Generate and save solutions.

  • Upload saved solutions to the online version of the tool, so you can then view and update your solutions online.

! Important

HP strongly recommends that you print a copy of the installation instructions and read the steps carefully before installing the offline tool. The steps for installation have changed significantly, including installation of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) as a prerequisite.
