21.5. Planning for Offsite Storage

It is imperative for backed-up data to be moved regularly to an offsite storage facility. If something were to happen to the facility, backup media could be retrieved from safe, offsite storage.

Depending on the importance of the data, there can be several offsite storage facilities. Companies that provide offsite storage service will pick up and deliver media when they need to be rotated.

Be careful about choosing a location for backup media. Magnetic fields can destroy data on media. Keep media away from electronic devices such as video monitors, analog telephones, and so on.
