18.5. Removing Hardware Options and Upgrades

 < Day Day Up >

A situation might arise when you need to remove a hardware component from a server. At its simplest, removing a hardware component is as easy as uninstalling the software driver from the operating system, shutting down the server, opening the chassis cover, removing the component, and replacing any items removed during the installation.

Removing a hot-plug device other than a hard drive is even easier: Use the operating system procedure to stop the device, and then remove it when prompted; no shutdown is needed. To uninstall a hot-plug hard drive, you must use ORCA or the ACU to remove the drive from the array before removing it from the system.

Warning

Failure to properly remove a drive from an array could result in data loss.
