Part SIX: Performance

 < Day Day Up >

An Accredited Integration Specialist will be able to set up and configure a server to meet a customer's need for optimal performance. Strategies for optimizing performance are explained in Part 6.

Here is an overview of the chapters in Part 6.

Chapter 18 Installing Hardware Options and Upgrades

Chapter 18 explains the basic procedures for installing hardware upgrades and options, including processors, memory, drives, and PCI cards.

Chapter 18 also explains the process for removing hardware options and upgrades and how to troubleshoot a failed component installation.

Chapter 19 Availability

Chapter 19 focuses on availability. Availability is a measure of the time that a server system or component is functioning normally and of its ability to maintain services despite hardware or software failures, planned or unplanned.

An Accredited Integration Specialist should be able to determine a customer's need for availability and recommend the right server components to ensure the required level of availability is obtained.

Chapter 20 Optimizing Storage

Chapter 20 explains key concepts for optimizing storage. Storage can be optimized by choosing a stripe size most suitable for the type of data transfer common to your system and by changing the read/write cache ratio in the Smart Array controller.
