Describe the HP Prefailure Warranty program, and explain how the HP Insight Management agents provide the technical foundation for this program. Describe the HP Automatic Server Recovery features and explain how the HP Insight Management agents provide the technical foundation for this technology. Explain how to connect to the Systems Management home page for a managed HP ProLiant server. Describe how point management works, and explain the conditions when it provides an effective management solution. Explain the difference between a management application and a management platform. Describe HP Insight Manager 7 and its functions and features. Describe HP Systems Insight Manager. Describe the features and functions of the HP OpenView portfolio and explain the four levels of integration provided by HP OpenView. Describe the HP Survey Utility, its functions and features, and how to use the Survey Utility to gather and analyze system management information. HP Insight Management agents form the foundation of the HP systems management strategy. The Insight Management agents enable the following core HP technologies: Management applications are software programs that run on a server and work with agents to Provide necessary information about the network. Set parameters and thresholds for elements and agents. Execute any needed management commands across the network. The management application you choose does most of the work that is required to manage your systems, including interpreting, organizing, presenting, and manipulating system information. A management application also performs these tasks: Queries agents for information and displays it in a format that can be easily interpreted by the system administrator. Monitors and reports alerts received from agents. The application can either forward the alerts to another application or notify the administrator by pager. Enables the administrator to set parameters in agents, such as the threshold at which an agent delivers an alert. A management platform is a broader concept for software that allows vendors to accomplish two main functions: Publish Management Information Bases (MIBs) that can be compiled into the management system without the need to run the vendor's management application Design management applications that fit into the management system Management platforms enable administrators to use the available tools to manage each component on the network. This chapter discusses the following HP management applications: |
