This chapter briefly discussed the ins and outs of Windows networking and then showed several ways to access file shares and remote printers from a Linux system. It also showed that, once configured, Samba is an exceptional file and print server for your Unix and your MS Windows clients . It's robust, it scales remarkably well (after all, if you really need horsepower, you can throw a 16-processor IBM RS/6000 under it), and it's free. What more can you ask of server software?
