There you have it. You now have the power of the primitive. Every year brings great advances in communications technology, and no one, not even a technofogey (a term coined by my wife, Tina) like me, would want to give up those advances. But sometimes these advanced and high-speed communications methods break down. It is well to know something about lower-level communications technologies in these cases, because slow or limited connectivity is better than no connectivity at all.
These technologies provide a useful "second path " to back you up in the event of a failure. The getty -based dial-in may even allow you to fix your network problem without making a trip to the site. It may even let you catch a bored teenager. Leaving you with only the question "Why would I want to?"
