Installing Development Studio Client

WebFacing is a workstation tool that runs under the Microsoft Windows operating system. However, it is not a tool that you can install separately; you need to install the overall product that WebFacing is a part of. This overall product is called Development Studio Client. If you have not installed Development Studio Client yet, acquire the three CDs or the DVD and run the setup program. The CDs or the DVD are workstation media. Do not try to put them into your iSeries host optical drive. If you do not personally have the CDs or DVD, your company should have them.

If you have WebSphere Development Studio (WDS) installed on your OS/400 V5R1 or V5R2 system, you have a license for the Development Studio Client product. If you still have the predecessor of Development Studio Client, which is WebSphere Development Tools (WDT), then you can upgrade to the new product version by reordering it and specifying the following feature code: 5722-WDS FC 5903.

As mentioned before, I have based the exercise descriptions in this book on the newest version of WebSphere Development Client, which is Version 5.0. If you only have Version 4.0, you should be fine. The user interface of the WebFacing Tool is not very different, but where there are differences, I explain how to complete the tasks for both versions.

After installing the product, make sure that you obtain and install the latest fix pack/service pack. As I write this book the current information is as follows :

  • For Version 5.0, obtain fix pack 5.0.1 (follow exactly the instructions on our Web site about how to install this fix pack).

  • For Version 4.0, obtain service pack 4.

Assuming you have the required product installed on your workstation, you can now start with product configuration.
