Until now you have tested your application only in the local WAS test environment. Now you are ready to test on iSeries IBM WebSphere Application Server. In this exercise, you will export files created by the WebFacing Tool to a remote WebSphere Application server, to publish and deploy your application as you would in real-life development.
This exercise shows you how to publish your WebFacing files to a remote WebSphere Application Server 3.5.6 environment on an iSeries host. It also explains how to create your Web application using the WebSphere Administrative Server Administrative Console.
If you are working with iSeries WebSphere Application Server Version 3.5 (and not Version 4.0 or Version 5.0), follow these instructions to create the Web application from a WAR file.
You will start the Export tool, specify files to export, start the WAS administrative console and use it to navigate through the server environment, create a Web application using the wizard, and start the application in a browser. The WebFacing project files are copied to a remote Web server so that the application server will be able to find and use them.
At the end of this exercise, you should be able to
Use the WebFacing Tool's wizards to specify the files to export
Copy specified WebFacing files to the Web server
You will also learn how to use the WebSphere Administrative Server Administrative Console of the WebSphere Application Server, so that you can define all the pieces needed to run on the server applications created with the WebFacing Tool. By the end of the chapter, you should be able to
Use the WebSphere Administrative Server Administrative Console
Navigate through the console environment
Use the console and its wizards to create the Web application that runs the WebFacing application
Use the console to start the Web application
