Chapter 6. Designing with Objects

 <  Day Day Up  >

When you use a software product, you expect it to behave as advertised. Unfortunately, not all products live up to expectations. The problem is that when most products are produced, the majority of time and effort go into the engineering phase, and not into the design phase.

Object-oriented (OO) design has been touted as a robust and flexible software development approach. The truth is that you can create a very bad OO design just as easily as you can create a very bad non “OO design. Don't be lulled into a sense of security just because you are using a state-of-the-art OO design tool. You have to pay attention to the design and invest the proper time and effort into it to create the best product.
