Java was first seen by many programmers as a way to enhance Web pages by adding some actual code to them, to be run in the browser. But the real power of Java was unleashed at the other end of the client-server connection, when Java was pressed into service on the Web serverto help serve up pages, sometimes of its own making, to Web clients all across an enterprise.
