Internet technologies provide both new opportunities for business and challenge existing structures. The common law of Australia is only just starting to understand and interpret the value of protecting privacy. Business has rapidly embraced Internet technologies. Existing obligations on employers involve occupational health and safety matters. Whilst there are competing interests between employees and employers with respect to workplace monitoring, the boundaries, whether they are represented as terms in a contract of employment or in legislation, are quickly becoming established.
