5.4. Publishing as a Web PagePublishing a workbook or a worksheet as a web page was introduced in Excel 2000. It allows you to save all or part of a workbook in HTML format so that others can view it from a web site. You can even save the page in an interactive format that allows other Excel users to use the page to perform calculations. You can publish web pages from Excel to a SharePoint site using the same steps as you do for any other web site:
animal 5-22. Publishing a worksheet as a SharePoint web pageIt's also possible to publish the page outside a document library. For example, if you specify http://wombat1/Chapter 5 Sample/LoanCalc.htm in step 3, the page will be published at the root level of the workspace. However, it's harder to edit or delete files saved outside of document libraries. To view the newly published page in the browser, navigate to the document library and click on the new item created for the page. Figure 5-23 shows the loan calculator worksheet published from Excel. animal 5-23. Displaying the published worksheetThe web page in Figure 5-23 uses Microsoft Office 2003 Web Components. Those components are available for free download from Microsoft. However, members who do not have Office 2003 installed will not be able to edit items within the page. |
