Appendix D: Getting the GNOME Development Software

To make any sense of this book whatsoever, you need to acquire and install the GNOME 2 development environment. This appendix describes how to do just that.

System-Specific Packages

Reasonably current GNOME binary packages are available for almost every operating system: RPMs, Debian packages, Solaris packages, FreeBSD ports, and so on. Unfortunately, it is impossible to say just how current these packages are at any given moment. The Ximian Red Carpet system also offers automatic updates for GNOME 2 packages.
