Bedsprings, Sopranos and Axes: A Personal Story
Many of you (judging from the letter, the postcard and those three hangups I received following the publication of my last book) may be a tad perplexed by the enigmatic  nay, even puzzling title of this penultimate chapter. So let me hasten to clarify any queries you might have and immediately admit that this is indeed a mixed metaphor and, per usual, stems from my own personal experiences  two of them. to be precise. I strongly feel that there is no better place to write from, for it is from the scalding analysis of the particulars of one's own life, that one can make those gargantuan leaps to the general and, beyond to the universal, and still teeter to the truth.
Needless to say, it was from Colli, the Maestro Albani, that I learned this little garnet in the necklace of knowledge:
"From the hoof to the herd, Anthon, from the mole to the masses" he shouted at me, one night late at the Ox & Udder after one of our damper discussions. Anyway, if there's one thing that upsets me, it's tangential excursions from the main route of where one is going, so let us return to our titillating title:
"Bedsprings" actually is a reference pertaining to the world of the Visual Arts but it is such a relevant tale to the topic of how to listen to Modern Music, that I include it here unashamedly.
The Maestro, Lucetta and I once had the good fortune of winning a trip for three to New York City, having accurately guessed the number of leeks in Velma Varley's Victory Garden. Whilst there  in New York City, that is, not Velma Varley's Victory Garden  we visited the famed Museum
