If you think Modern music is "Weird" now, in 1999, just imagine what people thought back then when it was first performed in the 1910s and on.
In the one "corner" or the "ring" of culture, you had

a) wanting to write something NEW and ORIGINAL, but . . .
b) inheriting an old system of music that had pretty well dried up, so . . .
c) he (or she) starts looking for alternatives and, admittedly, in the course of that search comes up with some pretty wild and wacky possibilities, that seem pretty weird to!
THE GENERAL LISTENING PUBLIC, who
a) have been contentedly paying their 2 pounds, 3 shillings to listen to Bach, Beethoven, Brahms and Bizet, who then are . . .
