the Savings Report p. 80

  • By setting an option in the New Layout/Report wizard or the Layout Setup dialog box, a layout can be included in or excluded from the layouts pop-up menu. Layouts that need to be directly accessible to the user should be included; others that the user should never see or that are script-controlled (such as reports) are better excluded.

  • When picking a layout theme, you should decide beforehand whether you'll print the report, view it onscreen, or both. If you have an inkjet printer, a colored report can use a lot of ink and might better be replaced by the Default, Standard, or Windows Standard Print theme.

the CD Report p. 86

  • The field widths listed for this and other reports are merely suggested widths. The key is to pick widths that will fully display the widest text string they're likely to hold. If you prefer, you can set them by trial-and-error (as you'd do if creating layouts on your own).

Savings Bond Report p. 90

  • Examine the report title at the top of the layout. If the bottoms of descending letters (g and p) are clipped, try widening the text string by dragging a handle. Do the same for the Savings Report title, if necessary.

the Stock Report p. 92

  • The orientation setting (portrait or landscape) in the Page Setup or Print Setup dialog box determines whether a report is 8.5" or 11" wide. When manually switching from one layout to another, however, the orientation remains constantregardless of whether a layout was designed for a particular orientation. To get around this, scripts can specifically set the orientation for each layout, as explained in Chapter 8.
