13.8 Conclusion

Interoperability across the iTV food-chain is complex and requires standardization along numerous dimensions. A variety of standards were developed to address various interoperability issues. This gave rise to islands of standardization, each having limited scope and applicability. The next step would be to identify key lessons learned from deployment of these standards and apply these lessons to develop the many bridges that are needed for true interoperability.
