This chapter shows how the Visual Studio 2005 Server Explorer can be used to create, locate, organize, and debug SQL Server stored procedures and functions. Along the way, I showed you how to use the "New stored procedure" window to execute ad-hoc queries or maintenance scripts to configure and test your server-side executables. Sure, I would like to see a window dedicated to ad-hoc query debugging. It would also be nice if the ability to script SQL Server objects (as supported in SQL Server Management Studio) was incorporated here in the Server Explorerbut I'm not holding my breath. Remember that this is an OSFA interface, and Microsoft feels that if a feature is made available for one DBMS, it must be made available for all. I think that's like saying that if a Kansas City butcher sells beef, they should also sell fresh salmonand soy burgers for the vegetarians. When you're all things to all people, you're nothing for everyone. |
