Introduction

When Windows Server 2003 was originally released, the 70-290 Exam featured questions about the Microsoft' software update and patching service called Software Update Services (SUS). SUS has been replaced with Windows Server Software Update Services (WSUS). Microsoft will no longer support WSUS after December 6, 2006, and WSUS hasn't been available as a download from the Microsoft website since August 2005.

Because SUS 1.0 will no longer synchronize or provide new updates after December 6, 2006, the exam should be updated to reflect questions on WSUS.

Therefore, in this chapter we will look at WSUS, examine how it operates, and how best to implement it on Windows Server 2003.
