As a systems administrator, one of your main tasks is to manage the data on your storage devices. Compressing files, folders, and programs decreases their size and reduces the amount of space they use on your storage devices. Of course, one of the best ways to manage your storage is to not store unnecessary files on your servers in the first place. The file screening features introduced in Windows Server 2003 R2 help you prevent users from storing unauthorized file types that have no business use, and that take up large amounts of your precious (and expensive!) storage space. In concert with file screening are disk quotas. Quotas are use to prevent users from storing more than a specified amount of data, which ensures that the usersnot the system administratorare responsible for determining what files are important to the individual user. Last, but certainly not least, is File Encryption. With the emphasis put on security in the network environment these days, having a built-in method of encrypting and securing important files and folders is essential. Key Terms
