ISPI and ASTD affiliated to sponsor this CPT credential. When ISPI developed and launched the CPT Standards, they were widely acclaimed as representing best practices, or what ought to be best practices, in the field of performance improvement. ASTD decided to support the ISPI standards rather than create a competing performance improvement certification. ISPI and ASTD believe that it is critical to have a single professional voice regarding performance technology qualifications and practice. Both professional associations are highly regarded for their leadership in performance improvement. ISPI has approximately 10,000 members representing a broad spectrum of the field. ISPI promotes theory and models, giving academics and practitioners alike a chance to become visible and influential in the field. With regard to CPT, ISPI was the " incubator " in defining, field-testing, and launching the credential. ASTD also represents a broad spectrum of the profession with a membership of approximately 70,000. ASTD offers a large international presence, extensive benchmarking studies and data, and influence in public policy. ASTD is often quoted in national and international media, which broadens exposure for the CPT, the Standards of Performance Technology, and the Code of Ethics.
