Chapter 29
Novell GroupWise version 5.5 is the current messaging and collaboration platform of Novell, Inc. This system evolved from a stand-alone desktop library in the 1980s to a shared-file messaging system with client/server support. Previous versions include 4.1, 5.0, and 5.2. Direct connections to earlier versions, such as GroupWise 4.0 or even WordPerfect Office 3.1, are not supported. Novell GroupWise originates from WordPerfect, which is still noticeable in the system architecture. Input and output queues, for instance, are named WPCSIN and WPCSOUT.
A GroupWise Gateway for Microsoft Exchange is available from Novell to integrate GroupWise with earlier versions of Exchange Server. Microsoft also provided a Connector for Novell GroupWise with Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 Service Pack 3. Both may still be used in mixed-mode organizations when connecting GroupWise to a computer running Exchange Server 5.5. Native-mode organizations, however, require the Connector for Novell GroupWise that comes with Exchange 2000 Server to connect both systems directly.
This chapter introduces the Connector for Novell GroupWise. It explains how to configure messaging connectivity and directory synchronization. The exchange of free/busy information, however, is not covered because Exchange 2000 Server does not provide a Calendar Connector. Calendar queries must be routed through Exchange Server 5.5.
