Chapter 27
Lotus cc:Mail is a shared-file messaging system similar to Microsoft Mail for PC Networks. Up-to-date environments use Lotus cc:Mail release 8 with database version 8 (DB8), which is the only platform that is fully Year 2000-compliant. For this reason, Microsoft does not provide a connector to earlier releases of cc:Mail, such as Lotus cc:Mail release 6 with database version 6 (DB6). Recently, Lotus Development Corporation announced plans to discontinue their development of Lotus cc:Mail, which can be seen as the end of the shared-file messaging era.
The Connector for Lotus cc:Mail supports the integration of Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server into an existing Lotus cc:Mail network so that it acts as one or many virtual cc:Mail post offices. This is the basis for reliable messaging coexistence and efficient migration to Exchange 2000 Server. The connector configuration is straightforward and does not differ much from its predecessor, included with Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5, although a few features have changed, such as integration with Active Directory directory service. The connector supports the transfer of e-mail messages as well as directory synchronization. It is available in both the Standard and Enterprise editions of Exchange 2000 Server.
This chapter covers the installation and configuration of the Connector for Lotus cc:Mail. It describes the transfer of e-mail messages between both systems and explains the propagation of address information. This chapter focuses on environments with Lotus cc:Mail DB8.
