Conclusions

The goal of this chapter was to provide information on using Struts with EJBs. This was accomplished in three steps:

  • First, EJB technology was reviewed. General best practices and rules of thumb were presented to give you an understanding of how Struts and EJB technologies can be used together.

  • A sample application was presented. The first part of this presentation covered configuration issues related to integrating Struts with an EJB container. This was presented with the understanding that although the general steps are likely to be similar, the specific steps are highly dependent on the particular Web containers and EJB containers (or even versions of these) that you're using.

  • Finally, the source code of the sample application was reviewed with particular attention paid to the rules of thumb and design strategies that are recommended in this chapter.

Struts is an excellent technology for use in building the client- facing portions of applications that use EJBs and EJB containers for back-end processing. We hope that you can take the ideas and sample code presented in this chapter and apply them in your own applications.
