In the previous chapter we looked at planning issues related to deploying IIS 6 (and hence Windows Server 2003) in the enterprise. In this chapter I will walk you through several examples of deploying IIS 6 to give you an idea of the different approaches you can use. The specific methods we will look at include
Performing a clean install directly from the product CD
Performing a clean install from a network distribution point by booting the target machine with a network boot disk
Performing an unattended clean install with a distribution point and answer file created using Setup Manager
Upgrading from IIS 4 (Windows NT Server 4) to IIS 6
Upgrading from IIS 5 (Windows 2000 Server) to IIS 6
In each of these walkthroughs, I will describe the steps involved and examine the results of the installation. For upgrades, I will also compare the IIS configuration before and after the installation.
